ICAR- National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland, organised a 5-day training programme for Veterinary Field Assistant students in collaboration with Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute.
The programme aimed to educate and create awareness and enhance the student’s knowledge and skills about livestock Husbandry practices including Mithun. Lectures were delivered on various topics such as the importance of Mithun and other livestock in North-east India, semi-intensive mithun farming, importance of biosecurity in the livestock farm, care and management of different categories of mithun, selection, breeding, feeding and fodder resources management for mithun and other livestock, health and reproductive management, etc. Students witnessed routine farm activities from feeding to cleaning of an animal shed, preparation of concentrate mixture, value added milk and meat products, preparation of feed and mineral block, mithun handling, identification, collection and examination faecal samples for parasites, vermicompost preparation through farm waste, and other activities including heat detection, semen collection and cryopreservation.
Dr. Girish Patil, S., Director, ICAR-NRCM, Dr. Inato Jimomi, Principal, VFATI, Medziphema, other members of ICAR-NRCM and VFA trainees were present during the occasion.
A total of 10 students attended the programme.
