Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare visited the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi today. Shri Choudhary was accompanied by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and DG (ICAR).
The Minister visited the Centre for Protected Cultivation Technology. He took a note of the sensor-driven automated irrigation system, low-cost polyhouse, nursery raising technology and drip irrigation. Shri Choudhary applauded the IARI's strive for producing the quality planting materials for the farmers’ benefits.
On his visit to the IARI's models of Integrated Farming System for Rainfed condition and pond-based system, the Minister stressed on the usefulness of such models for enhancing the farmers' income. He also visited the Nanajee Deshmukh Plant Phenomics Centre for identifying the germplasm lines and genes for the climate resilience.
During his interaction with the Senior Officials of the Institute, Shri Choudhary stressed upon to ensure the quality seeds, cold storage facilities, processing and marketing.
The Minister urged all the officials to work with unity for achieving the target of doubling the farmers' income.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra highlighted the need to develop the crop plan for the whole country for enhancing the profitability of the farmers. The Director General also emphasized upon devising the approaches for the effective and faster dissemination of IARI technologies.
Asserting on the usefulness of IARI's technologies at the national level, Dr. A.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-IARI underlined the pivotal role being played by the IARI’s improved varieties in enhancing the farmers’ productivity and profitability. Dr. Singh emphasized on the crucial roles being played by the IARI’s Innovative extension approaches, such as, IARI-SAUs Partnership, IARI-Voluntary Organizations Partnership, IARI-Post Office Linkage in disseminating the IARI technologies and capacity building of farmers.
