The ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fruits, Bengaluru in collaboration with its Centre at the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam organized a National Webinar on “Advances in Disease and Pest Management for Sustainable Banana Industry” today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR emphasized on disseminating the necessary information to the banana farmers across the country in a most user-friendly language right at the time, they need in the field for tackling any threat from the pests and diseases in the banana farming. The DDG also applauded the farmers involved in sending the quality bananas abroad through export, a distinction to banana industry of India.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. B.K. Pandey, ADG (Horticultural Science), ICAR urged the participants to be vigilant on the genesis of pests and diseases before they assume an alarming proportion.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. S. Uma, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Bananas highlighted the various issues affecting the banana cultivation in the country at the farmers’ level. She also highlighted the ways adopted by the scientists of the ICAR-NRC on Bananas to address the issues in a phase-wise manner by hand holding with the farmers and exporters.
Dr. A. Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor, AAU recalled his long association with the ICAR-AICRP on Fruits and thanked the ICAR leadership for supporting the University in various ways to foster research and development within AAU.
Dr. Mrinal Saikia, Associate Director of Research, AAU, Jorhat summarized the entire proceedings of the Webinar.
The webinar witnessed thread bear analysis of variety of issues related disease and pest management in bananas.
