Joint Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Government of India visits ICAR-CIBA, Chennai

Dr. J. Balaji, I.A.S., Joint Secretary (Marine Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai today.

Dr. Balaji was accompanied by Dr. Kripa, Member Secretary and Senior Officials from the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA), Government of India.

During his interaction with the scientists on the national priorities in Brackishwater Farming Sector, Dr. Balaji highlighted the ongoing nationwide dialogues on the constraints in exotic vanamei farming and issues in the recent proposals to import the SPF Tiger Shrimp (Penaeus monodon). The Joint Secretary also underlined the country’s aim to double the seafood export in the next five Years. Dr. Balaji also stressed on the importance of the technological development, especially, for seed production and other hatchery infrastructure for diversified Brackishwater species.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA outlined the Institute’s research achievements and contributions to the farming sector in the recent past.
