The ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, Uttarakhand celebrated its 97th Foundation Day through Video Conferencing today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR applauded the Centre for its contribution in the field of hill agriculture. Delivering a Lecture on "India Need Innovation in Agricultural to sustain Food and Nutritional Security", Dr. Sharma stressed on the fundamental changes that are needed for enhancing the efficiency and skill of the agricultural system by including the modern means and artificial intelligence in agricultural research. The DDG emphasized on starting the M.Sc. & Ph.D. Programmes in Agriculture at ICAR-VPKAS in collaboration with ICAR-IARI, New Delhi in the near future. Dr. Sharma also dedicated 2 newly released varieties namely - VL Bhat 202 and VL Sweetcorn Hybrid 202 developed by the institute for the farmers.
Appreciating the Institute's contribution in the Hill Agriculture, Swami Dhruveshananda Ji Maharaj, Chairman, Ram Krishna Kutir, Almora, Uttarakhand emphasized on advancing the scientific agriculture in the coming years too.
Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS briefed about the Institute's achievements during the last year. He outlined about the four new varieties namely - VL Sweetcorn 2 in Maize, VL Masoor 148 in Masoor, VL Bhat 202 in Bhat and VL Matar 61 in Matar notified by the Institute. The Director also highlighted about the releasing of 9 varieties of different crops, among which White Grain Finger Millet variety - VL Mandua 382; Amaranth Variety - VL Chua 110 and QPM Maize variety - VL QPM Hybrid 59 are notable. Dr. Kant outline4d about VL Makka Thresher developed by the Institute during the last year.
Besides, the Progressive Farmers - Smt. Preeti Bhandari from Almora & Shri Jagir Singh from Bailparao, Ramnagar (Uttarakhand) were also awarded during the occasion.
The senior officials of ICAR Institutes and State Agricultural Universities participated in the programme through the video conferencing.
