The ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad organized a “Brainstorming Meet on Up-scaling Backyard Poultry to improve its share to total poultry production in India” from 8th to 9th August, 2019.
The Chief Guest, Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries and Animal Sciences), ICAR, New Delhi emphasized on the importance of line departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the dissemination of the technologies developed by the ICAR Institutes to the end users and farmers.
The DDG stated that such kind of Brainstorming Meet will help to understand the expectations and new challenges of various stakeholders of poultry industry and backyard poultry in particular.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. R.S. Gandhi, ADG (Animal Production and Breeding), ICAR, New Delhi deliberated upon the various statistics of poultry development. He also highlighted the importance of backyard poultry in doubling the farmers’ income.
Dr. C.R. Prasanna (IAS), Director, Directorate of Veterinary Services, Chhattisgarh stated the objectives, status and constrains of poultry development in Chhattisgarh. He briefed about the importance of quality germplasm, alternate feed ingredient and developing the skilled work force through the scientific training.
Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR, Hyderabad outlined the main objectives of the meet. He also underlined the several success stories of varieties developed by the ICAR-DPR and AICRP Centers on Poultry Breeding like Vanaraja, Gramapriya, Srinidhi, Pratpdhan, Himsmridhi, Jhaarsim, etc.
The Senior Officials of ICAR participated in the meet.
