An Awareness-cum-Capacity Building programme on Quality Assurance of Soil Testing Labs under the Soil Health Card Scheme envisioning the Slogan ‘Swasth Dhara, Khet Haraa’ – Healthy Earth, Green Farm was organized jointly by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibers in coordination with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North 24 Parganas (Addln.) today.

Dr. Gauranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore, emphasized the need to shift focus from quantity to quality and urged for a strong quality assurance system to ensure the reliability and quality of soil testing.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the vital role of quality assurance schemes, including policies, procedures, documentation, and controls, in ensuring consistent and reliable testing and calibration by adhering to international standards. He spoke about the need for soil testing laboratories to prioritize quality assurance to deliver precise recommendations to farmers through soil health cards based on soil test results.

Ms. Malancha Das, Deputy Director, NABL, Kolkata while narrating the role of NABL stated that NABL evaluates laboratories based on internationally recognized standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 for testing laboratories. She also discussed in detail about the importance and protocols of Recognition/Accreditation of Soil Testing Laboratories.

Dr. Sanjoy Saha, Head, Crop Production Division, ICAR-CRIJAF, and Dr. Dr. Tanmay Samajdar, Head, ICAR-KVK, North 24 Parganas (Addln.) were also present during the programme.

A total of 40 Scientists/In-Charges of State Soil Testing Laboratories, ICAR-KVK and other Laboratories belonging to ICAR-CRIJAF participated in the programme.
