MANDATE

To under take basic and applied research for developing and delivering technologies based on sustainable agroforestry prctices on farms, marginal and wastelands for different agroclimatic zones in INDIA.

To co-ordinate network research with the SAUs/ ICAR Institutes/ other related research institutes for identifying technologies which can be transferred from one region to another.

To provide training in (a) research methodologies and (b) use and application of technologies developed at various levels.

To develop technological of diffrent agroforestry practices for various agroclimatological zones for transfer fields and wastelands.

To act as repository of information on the subject.

To collaborate with relevent national and international agencies for achieving the above objectives.

To provide consultancy.

INFRASTUCTURE

Experimental Farm

The Centre has about 86 ha land of which nearly 50 ha is under experiments and general plantations.The soils of the farm are non-alluvial innature and their occurance is closely related to physiographic units.

Laboratories

The center has analytical, plant protection laboratory and an instruments laboratory well equipped with Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Kjeltec Auto-analyser, GLC, UV Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis System, Photosynthesis system and root Image Analyser, etc.

Library

A well furnished library with computerised facilities comprises of collection of reference books, periodicals, reports, maps etc. currently the library subscribes 81 periodicls of which 54 are Indians, 27 foreign, 300 reprints and has about 1700 books. The library has also a good collection of abstracting journals.

ARIS Cell

The Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS) Cell was established in 1997 to provide computational / consultancy services. The cell is well equipped with latest processing and analysis software viz. SYSTAT 11.0, Word Perfect Suite 8.0, MS Office 2000, Hardward Graphics 4.0 etc. The ARIS cell has been enriched with Internet and E-mail facilities by the installation of KU -Band FTDMA VSAT at the Centre.

Photo Lab

A well equipped photo lab meets day to day photographic and repographic needs of the scientists. Facilities exist for developing films and making black and white print slides. Provision also exist for the preparartion of charts and posters.
