Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare visited ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar today.
He was accompanied by Shri Ghulam Nabi Lone, Minister for Agriculture Production, Jammu and Kashmir; Shri. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State for Agriculture Production, Jammu and Kashmir and Shri. Sundeep Kumar Nayak, Principal Secretary. Agriculture Production, Jammu and Kashmir.
Shri Singh highlighted the establishment of KVK and Regional Station Dirang. He emphasized on the need of cooperation and collaboration of the Institute with state Horticulture Department and SKUAST for better research and extension work. In his address he enlisted some important technologies like intercropping, rejuvenation, elite varieties of onion, garlic, apricot, walnut etc to be demonstrated through Front Line Demonstrations and expressed that the institute should focus on developing frontier technologies and give prominence to technology commercialization. He also emphasized the need of paradigm shift for ensuring sustainable productivity in horticultural crops and conservation of local varieties. The minister made special mention of effort to provide soil health cards to the farmers in collaboration with state subject, and hence, cooperation from the state government is necessary to achieve the objectives of these programmes and the same was discussed with other dignitaries form Jammu and Kashmir State.
