The first meeting of the reconstituted Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Central Water Commission (CWC) Joint panel held at NASC Complex New Delhi today under the Chairmanship of Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) and Co-Chairmanship of Chairman CWC to review the activities ICAR-CWC joint panel in the areas of water resources management for enhanced and sustainable agricultural production.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) while highlighting the importance of such joint panel emphasized the need for organizing joint panel meeting one in every six months for effective implementation of joint panel recommendation and suggestions. He also suggested to bring surface water and groundwater in one forum, preparation of action plan for improving water use efficiency as well as institutionalization of training needs.
Shri S. Masood Husain, Member (WP&P), CWC in his opening remarks highlighted the need for increasing irrigation efficiency by 20%. He emphasized the need for increasing water use efficiency and water productivity through efficient irrigation methods, benchmarking of irrigation projects.
It was decided that ICAR and CWC should work together towards providing irrigation to each farmers and improving irrigation efficiency and agricultural water productivity.
