Annual Review Meeting of ’AICRP on Nutritional and Physiological Interventions to enhance reproductive performance in animals’ for the year 2016-17 was organized by ICAR- National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bangalore at TANUVAS, Chennai today.
Dr. S. Thilagar, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS emphasized that the project is being implemented at the right time when the country is facing drought and shortage of fodder. He requested the scientist to give required package of practices that can double the income of the farmers. He later released the annual progress report for the year 2016-17.
Dr J K Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries and Animal Sciences), in his address urged the scientists of the various centres to work together to address the challenges faced by the livestock farmers. He suggested that the field of nutrigenomics need to be explored and genomic research on buffaloes should be undertaken.
Dr Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR- NIANP, Bangalore presented an overview of the programme and its salient achievements during the last two years. He mentioned that outcome of this programme would help in doubling the income of the farmers.
The principal investigators of 12 centres involved in the project presented the progress of the work done during the last one year in the meeting.
Dr. O P Dhanda, Former ADG (AN & P) and Dr. B. S. Prakash, ADG (AN & P), ICAR participated and reviewed the progress of the various centres as experts.
