The first meeting-cum-workshop of state coordination committee on “Doubling the Farmer’s income by 2022 in Odisha State” was organized at ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack today.
Prof S. Pasupalak, Vice Chancellor, OUAT and Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that diversification through horticultural and high value crops is key to doubling farmers’ income. Convergence of various state agencies including research institutes, KVKs, state departments are required at district level. He further emphasized that since farm holding is very small non-farm income has to be increased in Odisha to supplement the farmers’ income. Food processing, market intelligence and marketing needs should be strengthened, he added. Prof emphasized that Systems approach is required to enhance efficiency of land, water and nutrients.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director, ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack and Convener of the Coordination Committee, briefed the scenario of farm household income in Odisha.
Representatives of various Organizations presented their views and highlighted the technologies available with them for upscaling.
A draft outline was prepared for the proposed document of ‘Doubling Income of Odisha Farmers by 2022’. It was highlighted that agro-climatic sub-zone specific technologies
Directors of ICAR Institutes, Senior Officials of Sate Agricultural Universities, State Governments participated in the meeting.
