Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, laid the foundation stone of Multi-Technology Testing Centre at the College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University, Lembucherra today. On this occasion, the minister also reviewed the ongoing centrally sponsored development schemes of Tripura state in agriculture and allied fields with state functionaries.
Shri Singh in his address to the faculties, ICAR scientists, KVK officials, state functionaries, students and farmers, highlighted all round efforts being undertaken by the central government in mission mode by launching multiple schemes namely Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav, Pt. Deen Dayal Unnat Krishi Shiksha Yojna, Soil Health Management Scheme, Blue Revolution, Organic Farming, Gokul Mission, National Bovine Reproduction Programme, etc. for sustainable development of agriculture and enhancement of income of marginal farmers of the country, in general and eastern and northeastern region, in particular as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He also emphasized the need of paradigm shift for ensuring sustainable productivity of the soil and conservation of local breeds of bovines. The minister made special mention of effort to increase proportion of irrigated land in the length and breadth of the country. However, he emphasized that agriculture is a state subject, and hence, cooperation from the state government is necessary to achieve the objectives of these programmes. He called upon scientists and students to have an emotional feeling for the soil as enshrined in our culture and dedicate energy for the upliftment of small and marginal farmers in the villages because it is important for the national unity and progress of our mother land.
Shri Khagendra Jamatia, Minister for Co-operation, Fisheries and Home (Fire Service), Govt. of Tripura highlighted the stride made by Tripura with regard to increasing local fish availability and also drew attention to requirement of additional fund to undertake Blue revolution to its logical conclusion.
Earlier, Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Vice-chancellor, highlighted special achievements of the College of Fisheries in the fields of academic, research and extension.
