The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar celebrated its 27 th Annual Day at Kausalyanga premises on 1 st April, 2014.
Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Director, Directorate of Water Management was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He inaugurated the annual day function and presented CIFA annual awards to staff and scholarships to their meritorious children.
Dr. P. Jayasankar, Director, CIFA welcomed the dignitaries and mentioned a few notable technologies of the institute like technology package of practices for breeding and culture of economically important fish and shellfishes, PCR based disease diagnostic kits, Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP), portable carp and magur hatcheries along with other gadgets and feeds for different life stages of fish. CIFA has recently commercialised ‘CIFABROOD’, which is an ideal feed for inducing gonadal maturity in carp brood fishes leading to their advance spawning. He also elaborated upon off-season breeding technology for carps, genetically improved rohu ‘Jayanti’, e-module learning etc.
Dr. B. Ravindran, Director, Institute of Life Sciences; Dr. (Mrs) Neelam Grewal, Director, Directorate of Research on Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar; and Dr. Damodar Satapathy, Director, College of Fisheries, OUAT, Rangailunda also graced the occasion and expressed their valuable remarks.
Dr. B.K. Das, Principal Scientist and Secretary, CIFA Staff Welfare Club presented a brief report of the activities of the club. In the evening Cultural programmes were also organized.
Dr. G.S. Saha coordinated the annual day function.
