Directorate of Weed Science Research (DWSR), Jabalpur celebrated its 26th Foundation Day on 22nd April, 2014.
Dr. A.K. Sikka, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, he highlighted the importance of efficient weed management technologies for sustainable production and the need to improve existing available technologies. Dr. Sikka urged scientific community to continue research in prioritized areas for benefit of farmer as well as stakeholders so that they can improve their socio-economic condition and agricultural production with less input.
Dr. V.S. Tomar, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur emphasized upon the indispensable need of continuous research on weed science for the benefit of farmer community.
Dr. V.N. Saraswat and Dr. Jay G. Varshney, Former Directors, DWSR briefed the athering about the establishment of the Directorate and its face lifting in terms of infrastructure development and prioritization of research programmes.
Dr. S.S. Tomar, Director Research, JNKVV; Dr. A.R.G. Ranganatha, Project Coordinator AICRP-Sesame; and Niger, Statutory Officers of JNKVV were also present on the occasion.
An extension bulletin/folder on “Biology and management of parasitic weeds” and “Weedy rice and their management” were also released by the dignitaries during the event.
Earlier, Dr. A.R. Sharma, Director, DWSR welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering about the about research and development activities of the Directorate.
On the occasion Best worker in the category of skilled supporting staff, technical officers and scientists were also awarded.
