ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna organized a farmers-scientists interaction meeting on 13-14th February, 2014 at Uttar Simlabari Village, Jalpaiguri (WB).
During the interaction, farmers were given the overview of the activities being undertaken at the village needs and resources. Improved irrigation methods and water harvesting structures for better yield were also demonstrated. Action plan for livelihood improvement of villagers with the provision of irrigation facilities, improved high yielding seed materials of agri-horti crops and improved farm implements were discussed. As a part of prophylactic measure, the birds and animals were administered with required antibiotics and B-complex medication.
Uttar Simlabari is a tribal dominated village in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna chose this village to implement agricultural based activities under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) for improvement of livelihoods of the tribal community. Improved poultry breed (Grampriya), goat (Black Bengal) and pig (T&D) were made available to 250 tribal households for improvement of their income from livestock.
