Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai celebrated National Fish Farmers’ Day on 10th July 2013. Padma Bhushan Prof. R. B. Singh, President, NAAS inaugurated the function. In his inaugural address Prof. Singh stressed upon the importance of entrepreneurship for addressing employment issues of the country. He also highlighted the need to bridge the gap between acquired and required knowledge for generating qualified human resource.
Dr. M. L. Madan, Former VC and DDG (Animal Sciences), ICAR and Dr. S. D. Tripathi, Former Director, CIFE also graced the occasion as Guests of Honour and presented their valuable remarks.
Earlier, Dr. W. S. Lakra, Vice Chancellor welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized upon the need for a culture of innovations and quality research and teaching.
The function was attended by several fish farmers and entrepreneurs from various parts of country. On this occasion, Prof. Hiralal Chaudhuri Fish Farmer Awards were conferred to six farmers/entrepreneurs engaged in aquaculture, processing and pearl culture in different states. Three young scientists were also awarded with Prof. Hiralal Chaudhuri Young Scientist Awards for their significant contributions to research in fisheries.
