"Skill enhancement through open source educational resources in higher education using cutting edge technology will give access and also improve imparting of higher education to a large population in India," said Dr Arvind Kumar, Deputy Director-General (Education), ICAR. He was inaugurating a two-day Workshop on Emerging Practices of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education and Training at National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad today.
Dr V. Balaji of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada spoke on the latest trends in open educational resources. Dr S.L. Goswami, Director, NAARM, gave an overview of the Workshop and elaborated upon use of the state-of-the-art technology in training through e-resources. Dr Rameshwar Singh, Project Director, Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture, ICAR mentioned about the initiatives taken by the ICAR for improving access to open educational resources during the XII Five Year Plan and also through the NAIP. Dr Dileepkumar, ICRISAT, Patancheru outlined the global initiatives at ICRISAT to interact with other national and international organizations to make available open educational resources.
The deliberations with participants from the IGNOU, New Delhi; ICRISAT; NPTEL; IIT, Chennai; TANUVAS, Chennai; ANGRAU, Hyderabad; IARI, New Delhi; UAS, Bengaluru; FCRI, Thoothudi; University of Lucknow; Kerala Agricultural University, SVP University of Agriculture and Technology; Society for Applied Biotechnology; and NAARM, Hyderabad will enable formulation of a roadmap for further development and improving the availability of open educational resources in agricultural education.
