Dr. Mangala Rai, Agriculture Advisor to the Chief Minister of Bihar and former Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR inaugurated the administrative building of Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-II, Kolkata here today.
Dr. Mangala Rai, in his presidential address, emphasized upon the need for all-round support to the farming community for their development. Considering the KVKs as the catalyst of change, Dr. Rai urged upon KVKs to find out the root cause behind slow pace of technological advancement in this part of country and resort to appropriate measures in converting the weaknesses into strengths.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR expressed his satisfaction for completion of the administrative building within a reasonable time. He thanked the Zonal Project Director, Zone-II and his team for their splendid achievements not only in completion of the building but also on overall performance.
Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agril. Extn.), while addressing the delegates, highlighted various steps taken up by ICAR in strengthening Zonal Project Directorate, Directorates of Extension Education and Krishi Vigyan Kendras with the penultimate goal of improving the farming community.
Dr. N.K. Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director General (Horticulture) Dr. A.K. Sikka, Deputy Director General (NRM), Prof. C.S. Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor, WBUA&FS, Kolkata, Dr. A.C. Sinha and Vice-Chancellor, UBKV, Coochbehar, West Bengal also graced the occasion.
Four publications were released by the esteemed guests. Directors of ICAR Institutes, officials from KVKs and farm innovators also participated in the event.
Dr. K.D. Kokate inaugurated Zonal Farm Innovators Meet at Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-II as a co-event. Ninety innovators from the zone participated in the meet from about 50 KVKs and displayed 53 innovations in the field of crop production, water management, water lifting, vegetable cultivation, farm tools and implements, animal rearing, fish seed rearing and other areas. Dignitaries visited stalls and interacted with the innovators regarding benefit of the innovations. Dr. Kokate suggested for patenting a few innovations while interacting with the farmers and ZPD officials. Later, while addressing the innovators and KVK personnel, he pointed out that KVK has emerged as a unique system which is also being replicated in other countries of the globe. He also made a mention about the innovation fund created at ICAR headquarter to provide assistance to the innovators.
Earlier Dr. A.K. Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-II welcomed the guests and highlighted the major achievements of ZPD, Zone-II.
