Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR visited KVK, Dhar and farmer’s fields of the region on 20th April, 2013. He along with Dr. A. Mishra, ZPD, Zone-VII and Dr. S.S. Tomar, DES, RVSKVV, Gwalior visited Awaliya, the tribal village of Nalcha block, and interacted with the tribal farmers. They visited demonstration fields of Watermelon, Muskmelon, Onion and Sponge gourd crops grown under NAIP Component –III. During interaction farmers appreciated interventions from the KVK and convergence with the horticulture department that enhanced their income almost 6-10 times.
Dr. Kokate appreciated the farmers and advised them to make self-help groups for better market linkage and higher income of the produce. Looking to high aroma in local ginger and turmeric grown by the farmers, Dr. Mishra suggested analysis of curcumin in turmeric and gingerols in ginger. Dr. Kokate advised farmers of village to improve livelihood security from hi-tech Vegetable and spices cultivation.
At KVK, the team also interacted with the farmers, women self-help groups and ex-trainees. Dr. Kokate inaugurated the Free KMA Service of NIC for 25,000 farmers and released two Hindi booklets. Dr. Kokate remarked that farmers should give emphasis on post-harvest processing and value addition and brand name for their products for increasing the profitability. Dr. Tomar emphasized on better convergence with line department for enhancement of income of farmers. Dr. Kokate expressed satisfaction with regard to various activities of KVK and advised documentation of the achievements.
