A site selection committee under the chairmanship of Dr. S. L. Mehta, former Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur visited the site proposed by SKUAST-K at Sub Division Nyoma today. The altitude of the site is 13,900 feet. The administrative Sub Division Nyoma is spread over 23000 sq. kilometers and comprises of two developmental blocks- Nyoma and Durbuk. The population dominantly lead a nomadic way of life, always moving in search of greener pastures. This sub division shares its boundaries with Nubra valley, Karu block of Leh district, Zanskar sub division of Kargil district, Himachal Pradesh and China. Major cropping system of the sub division is Agri-Pastoral. There is immense scope for improvement in livestock production technology, which is sure to improve the livelihood opportunities of the herders. There is also good scope for increasing horticultural produce especially vegetables by introducing relevant technologies for improving the dietary habits. Dr. Tej Partap, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Dr. A. M. Narula, Zonal Project Director, ZPD, Zone-I, Dr. Desh Raj, DEE, CSKHPKV, Palampur, Dr. Afifa S. Kamili, DEE, SKUAST-K, Dr. Mohammad Saleem Mir, Associate Director and Dr. Durjay Namgyal, PC, KVK Leh also visited the site.
