ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organised Farmers Fair and Training on “Agricultural Mechanisation and Marketing” under Tribal Sub Plan here today.
Sh. A. K. Selvaraj, Member of Parliament, RajyaShabhain his address as Chief Guest appealed the farmers to utilize the inputs issued under various schemes for improving their livelihood security and socio economical status. He further stated that the rain water harvesting and artificial recharge is very important in the region to mitigate climate impact and changes in rainfall pattern. Both central and state governments are very keen to increase the productivity and farm income into thrice and various schemes are initiated to achieve the target. The member Rajya Sabha appreciated the efforts of ICAR – IISWC, Regional Centre for taking up various activities under TSP in the region.
Shri Selvaraj distributed a power sprayer and a mini tractor to two groups of villagers for custom hiring purpose among the village farmers. The agricultural inputs namely high yielding variety of pulse seeds, Manures and fertilisers for integrated nutrient management, vermicomposting bags and polyfilms for drying agricultural products were also distributed to the beneficiaries of the villages.
Ten villages has been selected by ICAR-IISWC, Regional Centre, Ootyfor MeraGaonMera Gaurav programme.Out of that 6 villages are from Nilgiris district and 4 villages are from Coimbatore district. Senguttaiyur and Seengulivillages of Coimbatore district are selected for MGMG and TSP programme of Government of India.
