NICRA Annual Review Workshop Inaugurated by DG, ICAR

9-10 December, 2016, New Delhi

A two-day NICRA Annual Review Workshop was organized during 9-10 December, 2016 at NASC, New Delhi.  The meeting was aimed at reviewing consolidated work progress of all the NICRA partner institutes and to discuss future work plan. Dr T Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR was the Chief Guest.  In his inaugural address, appreciating the outcomes of NICRA he underlined the uniqueness of the project. DG felt the need to make best use of state-of-the-art facilities established in the project. He advised the scientists to enhance the visibility of NICRA project at global level by publishing research papers in high impact journals. Similarly, he advised to bring out policy briefs highlighting carbon neutral agriculture, system stability and sustainability indicators for each sector. He asked the scientists to  frame a concrete plan of action for the next phase of NICRA  taking further the lessons from  use of resilience indicators and ecosystem services rendered by Climate Resilient Technologies across NICRA villages  in  the country.

Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, CRIDA made a brief presentation on outcomes of NICRA project, its contribution to National and International programmes and the way forward. This was followed by remarks from Dr K Alagusundaram, DDG (NRM) and Dr SM Virmani, Chairman, NICRA Expert Committee. Dr AK Singh, DDG (Agr. Extn), Dr S Jena, DDG (Fisheries).

Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC),  Dr SK Chaudhary, ADG (SWC), Directors of ATARI, Expert Committee Members, about 200 scientists from 40 ICAR institutes, KVKs, and farmer representatives participated in the two day deliberations.

There were eight Thematic sessions viz., Natural Resource Management; Crop Improvement; Technology Demonstration; Horticultural Crops; Pests, Diseases & Pollinators; Fisheries; Livestock; Vulnerable Assessment, Socio-Economic Impacts and Farm Advisories; and Integrated Modeling Framework  chaired by respective DDGs and co-chaired by concerned ADGs.
