Shri Prabhu Lal Saini, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Government of Rajasthan visited ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner today.
Minister in his address, stressed to strengthen camel conservation and inform that Government of Rajasthan is committed to support the camel herders by providing cash amount of Rs 10, 000.00 for each camel calf born of reared up to 1 year of age. He also appreciated the effort of NRCC to prepare feeding plan for the camels involving use of various feeds and fodders available in the region and integrating it as complete feed in the form of blocks and pellets.
Dr. N.V. Patil, Director, while highlighting the significant achievement of NRCC informed that Centre was successful in promoting camel milk as a functional food which has brought some change in the mind set of camel herders to rear camel as a milk animal. However, there is need of getting a supporting policy in place from Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Rajasthan to have specific breeding policy for camels so that the dwindling camel population is taken care of, he added.
