ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna organized Steering Committee Meeting of Second Green Revolution here today.
Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in his inaugural address as Chief Guest, emphasized the coordination and convergence between different agricultural activities, being implemented in different Eastern states. The eastern region is contributing 50, 45 and 38% of the total production of rice, vegetables and fish, respectively at the national level, and hence has the potential to achieve higher production of milk, meat, pulses and oilseeds through overall development of the agriculture. He urged the scientists to develop and popularize climate smart technologies. There is also a need to rehabilitate the waterlogged areas through integrated farming system approach, he added.
Minister also inaugurated the Second Green Revolution Cell at the institute.
Dr. Jeet Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) in his opening remarks said importance should be given to all the enterprises of agriculture, including horticulture, fisheries, livestock, poultry etc. in a holistic manner to bring second green revolution,. However, these interventions should be region and area specific. He also mentioned that due importance should be given on seed, variety and mechanization.
Dr. B. P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR RCER, Patna stressed that the Steering Committee of Second Green Revolution will discuss the various polices, development, researchable and other issues of agriculture development across the states and disciplines for effective implementation of the programme.
Governing Body member of ICAR, Vice Chancellors of SAUs, Directors of ICAR Institutes of eastern region, Representatives from CGAIR Institutes, Senior State Govt. Officials, Scientists and Farmer representative of Eastern region participated in the meeting.
