Dr.Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow today.
Addressing the scientists and staff of the Institute, Dr. Mohapatra stressed the need of paradigm shift in sugarcane research in India and urged the scientists to think “out of the box” to develop technologies which can increase the existing sugarcane yield with minimum inputs and increase sugar recovery by 1.5 folds. He suggested that entrepreneurial development programmes may be chalked out by the Institute and should be implemented in order to attract rural youth in agriculture. Besides he also called upon to develop stress tolerant varieties of sugarcane, carry out processing and value addition and develop linkage of processors to the market
