A one-day sensitization workshop on ‘Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in Yamuna Basin’ was inaugurated at NASC Complex here today.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Dr. Ayyappan emphasized upon the need of enhanced water use efficiency in the Yamuna basin. He said that sustainable use of water can be ensured with new technologies and institutional and policy interventions. Dr. Ayyappan also stressed upon the adoption of climate resilient agriculture to conserve the water resources in changing environmental conditions.
In his keynote address as Guest of Honour, Shri G. Mohan Kumar, Special Secretary, Ministry of Water Resource, Government of India said that water resource is the most vulnerable resource in changing climatic conditions. He emphasized upon the development of irrigation infrastructure and dissemination of new technology for sensible use of water. Shri Kumar also hoped that the deliberations of this workshop will be helpful in enhancing water use efficiency.
Dr. A.K. Sikka, DDG (NRM), ICAR and Shri Bibhas Kumar, Chairman, Central Water Commission, Government of India also gave their valuable remarks.
Earlier, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Director, Directorate of Water Management, Bhubaneswar welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering about the key themes of the workshop.
Senior officials and scientists from ICAR institutes, DWM, CIMMYT, CGIAR institutes and Central Water Commission participated in the workshop.
