The World Veterinary Day 2013 was celebrated at National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal on 27th April 2013. Dr. K.S. Dangi, Director General, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of Haryana, while inaugurating the event, called upon farmers to pay special attention to regular vaccination of animals for the double benefit of profitable animal production as well as safe human health.
Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director and Vice Chancellor, NDRI presided over the function and delivered a lecture on Bird Flu, its symptoms, diagnosis and ways to protect poultry birds from this disease. He emphasized that contrary to the general perception; bird flu is manageable with proper vaccination plan and it is absolutely safe to consume poultry eggs and meat handled hygienically.
Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Project Director, DKMA, ICAR and guest of honor said that several livestock improvement technologies are available at NDRI and farmers must take full benefit of it.
The retired veterinarians from NDRI and Government of Haryana Drs. R.S. Singh, R.S. Ludri, R.P. Gupta, MPS Tomar, VM Dhawan, N.K. Mahani and Jaipal Singh were felicitated for their outstanding contribution to the veterinary profession. Faculty, students and farmers participated in the event.
