Shri Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing, Govt. of India, visited NRCL, Muzaffarpur on 1st December 2012. He had an interaction with the Director, Dr. Vishal Nath and scientists of the centre. On this occasion, several stakeholders and media persons were also present. The director apprised the minister about the ongoing research activities of the centre under the different theme areas viz., gemplasm management & crop improvement, crop production, crop protection and post- harvest and value addition and the achievements so far.
After visiting the various experiments and laboratories, the minister expressed his pleasure and appreciated the centre’s achievements and ongoing works especially post-harvest and crop protection. He told that litchi of Muzaffarpur is world famous for its quality and special flavor, and it needs promotion. He assured all possible help to promote and strengthen the litchi research being carried out at the centre. The Minister appreciated the recent efforts of the centre with respect to development of facilities like central instrumentation, pre-cooling, MAP, improved packaging and value added products. The basic and applied research on mycorrhizal biofertilizer, plant canopy architecture, rejuvenation of orchard, being carried out at the centre was also appreciated by the minister.
