Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR visited the NICRA village, Nirmal pimpri, Ahmednagar District and reviewed the activities undertaken by KVK, Ahmednagar during the Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs of Zone-V and also inaugurated the millet-processing unit at KVK.
He emphasized on continuous updating of knowledge by the Programme Coordinators of KVKs and advised to go beyond conducting routine programmes and plan for new initiatives and innovative programmes. He also appreciated the development of infrastructure and various activities undertaken by KVK, Ahmednagar.
In his remarks, Dr. K. D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR suggested development of proper linkage by the KVKs, Technological backstopping by the Directors of Extension to KVKs, development of modules by the KVKs for confidence building of farmers etc., and also indicated about the new initiatives of ICAR during XII Plan.
The dignitaries also interacted with the farmers group on various interventions made by the KVK. In the interaction meeting with the Programme Coordinators of KVKs, the annual progress of activities of 73 KVKs of Zone V was reviewed during the 3-day workshop. The Director of Extension of SAUs in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra participated in the workshop and gave their suggestions to improve the performance of KVKs.
During the workshop the technologies developed by Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Bangalore were presented by Dr. M. R. Hegde, Chairman, Research Management Committee, IIHR, Bangalore. Dr. J. V. Patil, Director, Directorate of Sorghum Research, Hyderabad presented the sorghum technologies while the Oilseeds technologies were presented by Dr. Padmaiah, Principal Scientist, Directorate of Oilseeds Research (DOR), Hyderabad and the Cotton technologies were presented by Dr. Blaise Desouza, Head of Crop production Division, Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur.
