Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary DARE, Government of India & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research visited the National Research Centre on Pig Rani, along with Dr. K. M. L. Pathak, DDG (Animal Science), Dr. K.D. Kokate, DDG (Agri. Extn), Dr. S.N. Puri, Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, Dr. C.S. Prasad, ADG (ANP), ICAR, Dr. Vineet Bhasin, Principal Scientist (AG&B) and Dr. Rajan Gupta, Principal Scientist (AN).
The DG visited the Pig Farm Complex where around 600 pigs of different indigenous and exotic breeds and their crosses are maintained under hygienic and good management practices. Dr. Ayyappan appreciated the efforts of the personnel for excellent management of the farm.
Dr. Ayyappan also visited the Research and Development pig slaughter house and pork processing unit of the Institute and keenly observed step by step the pig slaughter and processing operations undertaken in this state-of the-art slaughter house. DG also visited the secondary processing room where detailed demonstration of different value added pork products was done. Dr. Ayyappan commended that pork processing centre at NRC on Pig and stated that this unique facility in the public funded research system would be a platform for training students, entrepreneurs and is expected to bring major change in post harvest management of pig.
Dr. Ayyappan also inaugurated the newly constructed 'visitor's room' of the Institute. Dr. K.M.L. Pathak, DDG (AS) gave valuable suggestions for further improving the visibility of the Institute and congratulated the Director, NRC on Pig for creation and good maintenance of facilities in the Institute
