XVII Zonal Workshop of KVKs (25th to 29th October 2010) was organized at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar by Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-VII, (I.C.A.R.), Jabalpur.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. N. Panda, Chairman, Western Orissa Development Council (WODC), Bhubaneswar. He said that the job of K.V.K. S.M.S. is very challenging and they should have the capability to observe, realise and accept the reality of the situation. Prof. Panda focussed on participatory approach for dissemination of technology for effective adoption. The technology selected should be within the financial capability of the farmers. The recommendation to resource poor farmers should be of less vulnerable due to weather and other factors to avoid risk.
Prof. D.P. Ray, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology in his presidential address expressed serious concern over stagnation of yield of many crops in the country. Farmers’ Club, self-help group and farmers group are to be formed to empower the farming community. Kisan Mobile Advisory and Web-based message transfer system are to be used extensively for technology transfer, he said. Dr. U.S. Gautam, Zonal Project Director presented the achievements of Zone – VII.
During the workshop total eight technical sessions were conducted which included the session on Climate change, Women in agriculture, Preparatory review of RCM VII, Review the progress of KVK 2010-11(April to Sept.) and Annual Action Plan 2011-12, etc. A total of 136 participants had attended this workshop including programme coordinators and subject matter specialists.
