Research Farm

The Institute research farm of about 36.5 ha area, has 33 plots of different host plants and is used for conducting various types of experiments. The experimental farm has 1540 nos. host trees of S. oleosa (kusum), 2840 nos. trees of Butea monosperma (palas), 1351 nos. Z. mauritiana (ber) and 8695 nos. minor host trees.

The institute holds collection belonging to about 50 species of lac hosts. They include a number of collections of the major lac hosts, palas, ber and kusum as well as exotic host species. The Institute farm is also engaged in collection and maintenance of germplasm of lac insect lines as well as lac host trees. It is at present systematically maintaining about 60 lac insect lines including collections from 15 states across the length and breadth of country.

The farm is well equipped with tractors, implements, irrigation facilities including large rain water ponds.
