Technological Empowerment of 29 Farmers on Soil and Water Conservation

Conservation was organized at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun during 1-3 February, 2017. The farmers represented three blocks Khirsu, Pavo and Kalzi Khasa and 17 villages of Pauri Garhwal district. The training was sponsored by ATMA, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. During inauguration, Dr. PK Mishra, Director motivated the farmers to conserve the soil and water for sustainable agriculture. He said that our survival is only possible by judicious use of natural resources. In his address, major focus was on cultivating the crops which are suitable to certain locations based on changing climatic scenario. He said that integrated watershed management creates positive impact in terms of enhancing productivity and profitability of the farmers.

Dr. Lakhan Singh, Head (HRD and Social Science educated the farmers by applying experiential learning techniques and the farmers were exposed to utilize their inner strength to get organized themselves. Various aspects like natural resource conservation, people participatory watershed management, engineering structures for resource conservation, soil fertility management, horticulture in hilly terrain, methods to conserve soil and moisture for fodder and fuel, agronomic measures for soil and water conservation, animal husbandry management were covered during training. Dr. Charan Singh, Dr. Ambrish Kumar, Dr. Bankey Bihari, Dr. Ramanjeet Singh, Dr Trisha Roy and Mr Darshan Kadam shared their technical knowledge about micro irrigation and methods of low cost conservation technologies. Successful case of participatory watershed management was shown to the farmers by Mr Rajesh Bishnoi. Dr Lekh Chand, Senior Scientist took them to KVK, Dhakrani and Selakui research farm towards enriching their knowledge and skill in the field of horticulture and soil and water conservation. Dr. Indu Rawat, Scientist coordinated the training programme.
