Shri Kedar Nath Singh Member of Legislative Council, Varanasi, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the “World Honey Bee Day” at ICAR-IIVR Varanasi today. Shri Singh briefed about various Government of India schemes, like soil health card, beekeeping, crop insurance scheme, etc. for the benefit of farmers’ community and doubling farmers’ income. He also highlighted the role of bee keeping not only for enhancing the crop production but also for rural employment generation, honey and other bee hive products. He stressed the need for dissemination of low-cost post-harvest technologies across the country to minimize losses. He also released extension folder on Integrated Beekeeping: at a glance (Hindi).
Shri Surendra Singh, Ex Member of Legislative Assembly, Jaunpur encouraged the farmers to harness the benefits of different scheme launched by Government of India in the interest of farming community. He also highlighted the medicinal importance of honey and other bee hive products.
Dr Ramashrit Singh, Ex-professor, RPCAU, Pusa, Samastipur advocated to follow the scientific methods of beekeeping to harness the various direct and indirect benefit.
Dr. Bijendra Singh, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi briefed about the on-going activities of the institute including the aim of newly established Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre/Centre of Excellence at the institute. He also highlighted seven points’ programmes of Prime Minister, Government of India for doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
More than 200 farmers of Varanasi, eastern U.P. including bee keepers and farmers involved in Farmers’ FIRST project running at the institute, participated in the programme. The participants took oath for new India movement (2017-2022) under “Sankalp Se Siddhi”.
