Shri Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State in Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs visited ICAR- National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner today.

While addressing the scientists of ICAR Institutes located in Bikaner, Shri Singh expressed satisfaction over the efforts of scientists of NRCC to establish camel as a milch animal and suggested to develop trade of camel milk based on its separate valuation on its therapeutic value. He appreciated efforts of NRCC towards creating awareness amongst farmers and traders to popularize camel milk and its products.

He urged the scientists to promote thorn less cactus   cultivation in a dry areas of India as an intercrop to widen the feed fodder base in the country. He lauded efforts of NRCC in utilization cactus in the complete feeds as a binding material which could replace the molasses use in the pelleted or compact feed blocks. The use of such complete feeds could be thought for creating feed-fodder banks for the areas where droughts are common, he added.

Sh. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Member of Parliament, Bikaner considered Camel as an USP for western Rajasthan and appealed Camel herders and also scientist to work together to popularize camel as an animal of human health utility for its milk benefits for diabetic and autistic children. He stressed that the concerted efforts are needed to trade the camel milk in each part of India and also throughout the world which will ultimately improve the economic condition of camel farmers.

The dignitaries visitedvarious units of Camel Dairy Unit, Feed Technology Unit Museum and the agricultural field growing thorn less Cactus as an animal feed.

Earlier Dr. N. V. Patil, Director briefed about the research achievements of the Centre and the efforts made by the Centre to get FSSAI approval for Camel milk. He also narrated about center’s role in formation of self-help groups for taking up trading of milk in a participatory manner.
