The ICAR-National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru in association with Indian Poultry Science Association (IPSA) organized the XXXIV Annual Poultry Science Conference (IPSACON 2017) from 28-30th November 2017 at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru under the Chairmanship of Dr Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, ICAR-NIANP. The theme of the conference was “Innovations for safe and sustainable poultry production”.
Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General (ICAR) was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory function on 30th November 2017. He called on the Industry to actively participate in the Research and Development activities involving poultry. He asked the industry to prepare the road-map for reaching the targeted egg and meat production. He also suggested the creation of Research Chairs in the name of Eminent Poultry Researchers in the country. In his address, he also emphasized the need to produce safe egg and meat and action points to double the income from ’Backyard Poultry’. The IPSA awards were presented during the occasion.
Dr J Radhakrishnan IAS, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was the Guest of honor. In his address, Dr J Radhakrishnan complimented the effort of researchers and industry across the globe in making the poultry sector more efficient and profitable and opined that egg and poultry meat are excellent sources of quality protein and micronutrients and play a critical role in addressing the problems of malnutrition in developing and underdeveloped countries.
The Chief Guest Dr Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (AS), ICAR, New Delhi after inaugurating the conference remarked that poultry sector is the fastest growing sector in agriculture and contributes significantly in providing job opportunities and sustainable livelihood for millions in India.
Dr Piet Simons, Former Vice President, World Poultry Science Association was the special guest.
During the three day event, five technical and three poster sessions were organized covering all the areas of poultry science including a panel discussion on Marketing Strategies in poultry sector and Scientist-Industry Interface involving eminent poultry professionals.
More than 350 delegates representing research, academia and industry participated in this conference.
