1.UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMMES

                   Admission to different undergraduate Programmes is done through a bifold procedure : 15% of total seats are filled by a Combined Competitive Entrance Examination   conducted by I.C.A.R. at all India level and 85% of the total seats are filled by Bihar Combined Competitive Entrance Examination. The minimum qualification is Intermediate / 10+2 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology for all undergraduate degree programmes. However, the candidates with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible for admission into B.Sc. (Ag.) and B.Sc. (Forestry). Students are admitted in unreserved and various reserved categories strictly on the basis of merit in the respective category through an entrance examination as per the reservation Rules of   State. 
Semester system of education is followed in the University. Each semester consists of approximately 120 working days. The residential requirements for the award of Bachelor’s degree is eight semesters including Rural work Experience in B.Sc. (Ag.) and B.Sc. (Forestry), during the last Semester. The residential requirements of B.V.Sc. & A.H. Course is of 10 semesters. The last semester consists of 6 months compulsory internship programme.

The College of Agriculture offers a four years course leading to the B.Sc. (Ag.) degree. The programmes of the College are carried through a network of twelve Departments viz. Agril. Physics, Agril. Economics, Agril. Entomology, Statistics & Computer Application, Agril. Extension Education, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Plant   Breeding and Genetics, Crop Physiology, Agril. Engineering and Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry. Disciplines which are related to Basic Sciences and are essential for better understanding of agricultural subjects are attached to relevant disciplines.

 

College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry :

3-.jpg (13543 bytes)College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry Offers 5 years B.V.Sc. (degree) programme through a network of 15 Departments namely, Anatomy, Animal Breeding and Genetics, A.H. Extension Education, Gyanecology and Obstetrics, Medicine, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Veterinary Public Health and Eqidemiology, Surgery and Radiology, Animal Production, Animal Production, Animal Nutrition, Physiology, Pathology and Vety. Biochemistry. Courses on Forage crops, Pisciculture and Apiculture are also offered to undergraduate students alongwith other production courses.

 

College of Forestry :

College of Forestry offers four years degree course. The faculty has seven departments in the College, namely Silviculture, Forest Management, Forest Products Utilization, Extension and Social Forestry, Wildlife Management, Ecology and Environment and Forest Science. The Basic Science subjects are taught by the teachers of the Agricultural College of this University.

2  POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The admission to different Post-Graduate programmes is also done on the basis of merit in unreserved and respective reserved categories. Reservation roster, as decided by the Government   is followed in P.G. admission.

The University offers course leading to M.Sc. (Ag.), M.V.Sc. & M.Sc. (Forestry) degree in various disciplines of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry. There are 29 Post-graduate Deptt. : 16 departments offering Ph.D. degree . No. Ph.D. course is offered in Forestry Faculty.

Master’s Degree :

Four semesters are the minimum residential requirements of Master’s Degree for regular Students. Degree is awarded by the Post-graduate faculty on the basis of course-cum-research studies spread over the whole period of 4 semesters. A student is required to complete 32 credit hours of research work.

Doctorate Degree :

Ph.D. degree is awarded by the University in Post-Graduate Faculty on the basis of course-cum-research thesis evaluation. A student is required to complete 24 credit hours work and 36 credit hours research work spread over 4 semester.

 4. Student Welfare

 

1.FELLOWSHIP, SCHOLARSHIP   etc.

 

The University provided merit and merit-cum-means scholarship of Rs. 170.00 and Rs. 150.00 per month of U.G. students respectively of the three faculties viz. Agriculture Veterinary Sci. & A.H. and Forestry. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of 10% of intake capacity. Besides these University scholarships, all the students belonging to SC/ ST classes get Dist. Welfare Scholarship, and there are a few scholarships awarded by ICAR on merit basis. The Post-graduate students of Agriculture, Veterinary and Forestry faculties get fellowship of Rs. 1000/- per month strictly on merit basis. The Ph.D. students get fellowship @ Rs. 1200/- per month.

 

2. INTERNSHIP

 

After completing the graduate course requirements, the students of Veterinary Science undergo for intensive internship program for a period of 6 months. The rate of internship has been enhanced from Rs. 800/- to 1200/- per month. For final year students, RWEP has been introduced in Agriculture and Forestry faculties also.

 

3.   EDUCATIONAL TOUR

 

Educational tours are conducted for the students of all faculties to acquaint them with agro-climatic conditions, cropping pattern and places of importance in Agriculture, Veterinary and Forestry Science in different parts of the country.

 

4.  STUDENTS ACTIVITIES :

 

1.         All India Inter University Debating Competition

Two BAU students Ms. Priyanaka and Ms. S. Padmanayam, both 3rd semester students of Agriculture, participated in All India Debating Competition sponsored by the Indian Council of Foreign Affairs , New Delhi during 21-23rd December, 1999. The topic of the debate was ‘Globalization is no solution for third world development.’

2.          Nation Level Debating Competition

Students of BAU, participated in the national level Debating Competition sponsored by National Council for Cooperative Training, New Delhi during 29-31, December 1999. The debate was held at the Institute of Cooperative Management, Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad.

3.        Elocution Contest

Mr. Prabhat Pandey (Vety. Faculty) and Nishant Sinha (Agril. Faculty) participated in Elocution competition held at IARI, New Delhi in Jan. 2000. For English Team, the topic of debate was –

“In the opinion of the house Government Assistance is absolutely necessary for the growth of Cooperative movement”.

N.S.S. & Others

Registration of student volunteers : 49 students volunteers were registered during different semester of the session

Vaccination programme :  250 animals were vaccinated against H.S. and B.Q. diseases in different villages of Ranchi district.

Three plantation  : About 50 trees were planted in and around Hostel No. 4 of R.V.C.

Sale of booklets : 89 booklets entitled “Pashu Palan aur Chara Utpadan” in Hindi, published by the N.S.S. unit of R.V.C. were sold to farmers and trainees of various units.
